Set up email sequences (drip campaigns)

Build multi-step sequences with waits, conditions, and branching to nurture contacts over time.

A sequence is a series of messages that go out automatically over time. Use one to onboard new contacts, nurture leads, or follow up after a purchase.

Start from a recipe

Open Sequences and click Browse Recipes first. These are ready-made sequences with the emails already written, each one showing its trigger, how many emails it sends, and how many steps it has. Click Install and edit it from there. A recipe installs as a draft. Check its trigger, then Activate it when you are ready.

Choose a trigger

If you build your own with New Sequence, the trigger decides who gets enrolled. These enroll people today:

  • Manual enrollment: you add contacts yourself with Enroll Contact on an active sequence
  • Form submission: when someone submits a form, including one shown on a Marketing app page, either any form or the one you pick
  • Tag added to contact: any tag, or the one you pick
  • New contact created: whenever a contact is added, by hand, from a form or landing page, or by import
  • Deal stage changed: when a deal, or a contact on a Customer Journey board, moves to any stage or the one you pick
  • Deal won, Booking created (on any booking page, or the one you pick) and Invoice paid: these enroll the contact linked to that deal, booking or invoice
  • Course enrollment: when someone enrolls in any course, or the one you pick
  • Event registration: when someone registers for any event, or the one you pick
  • Product purchased: when someone buys any product, or the one you pick

Add steps

Build the flow step by step:

  • Send Email: the messages contacts receive. Click AI Draft on a step to have AI write the subject and body for you.
  • Wait: pause for a number of hours or days between steps
  • Condition: only continue if the contact has, or does not have, a given tag
  • If/Else Branch: split the path based on what a contact has done
  • Goal (End When): end the sequence when a contact reaches an outcome (like getting a tag)

Branching lets you send different messages to different people, so the sequence feels personal.

Turn it on

A new sequence stays a draft until you Activate it. Once it is active you can Pause it at any time and Resume it later, and the sequence page shows how many contacts are enrolled.

Sequence emails go out through the same email setup as your blasts (see Run email marketing campaigns). If nothing is connected, contacts wait at their email step until you connect one.

Who a sequence skips

A sequence never emails someone who unsubscribed from your emails. They are not enrolled, whichever way they would have joined, and if they unsubscribe partway through, the sequence stops for them. When you enroll people yourself, the Sequences page says how many were skipped this way.

Before each email, the CRM also checks that the person is someone you may email. Colleagues and other agents are never emailed. In a real estate workspace, a person also needs a reason on record: they asked to hear from you, they are a past client, you know them, or the event that started the sequence (a form they sent, a deal they are in) says so. Without one, that email is skipped and the sequence moves on, so a later email goes out once they have a reason.
