Publish llms.txt on your site
What the file is, what Noli puts in it, how to upload it, and when to refresh it.
An llms.txt file is a plain-text page at the root of your website that tells AI assistants who you are, what you do, where you work and which of your pages matter. It is the web equivalent of handing someone a one-page summary instead of making them read the whole site.
Support for it is growing rather than universal. The effort is about ten minutes once, so it is worth doing.
What Noli puts in it
The llms.txt for your site card on the AI Visibility page builds the file from what your workspace already records. Nothing is invented:
- Your business name and a one-line summary from your brand description.
- Any names you are also known as, from the Also known as field.
- Your service areas, if you have them.
- Facts you have recorded about the business.
- Key pages: your home page, your site pages and your published landing pages.
- Articles: up to twenty-five of your published articles, each with its own one-line description.
- Contact: your website, and your phone and address when you have recorded them.
Because it is built from your real pages, it improves as you publish. A workspace with a thin brand profile gets a thin file, so fill in the brand profile first if the preview looks bare.
Put it on your site
The card shows the file, ready to read. Then:
- Press Download llms.txt, or press Copy and paste it into a new text file.
- Put the file at the root of your website, so that it opens at
https://yourdomain.com/llms.txt. On WordPress that is your host's file manager or FTP. On a site builder, ask whoever manages the site whether root files are allowed. - Press Check again on the site check above it. The llms.txt line turns green.
The file belongs on your own domain. Pages Noli hosts for you live on a shared Noli address, so a copy there does not help: assistants look for the file on the domain they are asking about.
Keep it fresh
Come back after you publish new pages, download the fresh copy, and upload it over the old one. Once a quarter is plenty for most businesses, and after a batch of new articles is better.
